Zojirushi SM-BA35 D-Mug 12-Ounce Stainless-Steel Mug
I love most Zojirushi products. This, however, is disappointing.
It looks fine and probably has good thermal properties. As a travel mug, though, it’s useless. Unless I’m denser than I think, I can find no way to sip from it while it’s covered. You have to take the entire lid off to expose the contents, thereby increasing the probability of spilling hot liquids all over yourself while commuting.

Keeps tea or coffee hot for a long time. You can customize the mug’s appearance by putting your own art or pictures in the plastic sleeve that encloses it. You can use the software on the Zojirushi web site to upload photos and print out a custom sleeve. Or you can do like I did which was to make a montage of photos. This is a high-quality product and the custom art-work will survive unwet through light washings of the exterior of the mug. Heft and feel of the mug is good. Fits in standard cup holders in your car. To keep the contents warm there is no opening in the lid to drink through, but I generally don’t use those little holes anyway. Great mug.

This is a fun coffee mug. The leading chain of coffee houses has “make it yourself” mugs, but they are cheaply made out of plastic and offer hardly any insulation to keep your coffee hot or your cold drink cold. The Zojiurushi D-mug is a very upscale version of those mugs. Incredibly well made with a complete stainless steel wall both inside and out, offering superb insulation. Over that is the plastic sleeve, which never comes into contact with your drink, behind which you can put graphics of your choice, pictures, or funny drawings. My only negative is that it is lined with Teflon, as are all Zojirushi products. I would much prefer it to be nothing but stainless steel inside because Teflon has raised some health concerns, although at higher temps than are likely to be used in this mug.
