The Easy Way to Make Delectable Crusty Sourdough Bread
Like me, you have probably looked through dozens of disappointing bread machine recipes in pursuit of that perfect sourdough recipe. In my own experience, most bread machine recipes have been remarkable, just not when it comes to sourdough. Why is it so tough to find only one good sourdough bread machine recipe? Come here, lean in close, and allow me to tell you a little secret: they’re really not all bad. I found an incredible recipe for sourdough which uses a bread machine, and I’m willing to share it with you under one condition: You have got to agree to share it with all your buddies, or at the least make it for them if they ask – as long as they ask in a polite manner, I mean.
Ingredients for starter:
One and a half (1 1/2) teaspoons of yeast (bread machine yeast, or any fast active dry yeast will do)
Four (4) cups of warm water
Three cups of all-purpose flour
Four (4) teaspoons of sugar
Ingredients for bread:
Half (1/2) cup of water
Three cups of all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons of sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons of salt
1 teaspoon of yeast
Preparation instructions:
1. Firstly, make the starter a week before you plan to make the bread. To make the starter:
a) Dissolve the yeast in the slightly warm water.
b) Add the rest of the starter ingredients and mix it all together.
c) Delicately cover this blend in a bowl and let it sit on your benchtop for about 7 days. You can tell that it’s done when it establishes a sour smell and contains tiny bubbles.
d) Now, put it in the fridge till it’s time to make the bread.
2. Place one cup of your starter into your bread baking machine, along with the rest of the ingredients for this bread recipe. If your machine has a particular order that it recommends for adding the ingredients, follow that directive.
3. All machines may differ, but use whichever setting is akin to “Basic” or “Normal” setting. If your machine has a setting for crust, set it to “Light”.
4. Cooking time also differs by appliance. Your machine will alert you when it’s finished.
Remember, the manner of deciding on the correct cooking time and settings often depends on the type of machine you have. My own experience has been that most machines supply you with a sample page of recipes. I typically utilize this page for comparative purposes and then decide on the settings in an appropriate way.
