I do not have kids, but if I did, I would make them CRUST SANDWICHES and teach them a lesson!!
I would recommend against it, as processed grains are not something that is naturally part of their diet. As a matter of fact, even the 'fancy' mixes at the stores that have all those extra little odds and ends in it, including cereal bits, are usually linked with impaction, obesity, etc.
All said and done, better safe than sorry!
If you want to give her an extra special treat, go to the store and buy wheat grass, and give her some of that. Or, even better, if you go to ebay, you can do a search for "Tortoise seed mix" and buy some seeds that give you some really nice plants that tortoises can eat, but the mix is perfect for piggies, too! I used to grow it in a windowsill herb garden style set-up when I lived in an apartment, I now have a big chunk on the other side of my house from my garden that grows it, and I harvest it for my tortoises and piggies and rabbits…..

No, I don't think you ruined your entire workout. Just a couple things you might want to take note of to make sure you get the best results possible. You might want to have a light snack before you work out next time so you don't eat a full meal in the middle. For example, some low or non fat yogurt. The protein will help your muscles with the weight lifting and give you energy to last the whole workout. Also, you should really give your muscles a day of rest between lifting. For example, I lift on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If you overwork your muscles, you won't see the results you want. If you want to lift several days in a row, you might consider do upper body one day, lower and next, and abs the next day, then repeating. But good for you for taking the time to work out and making the effort to eat right! Keep going! And I think dancing is a great cardio exercise. I do the elliptical and it can get boring doing the same motion!
YES…YES…YES housework is exercise but not as intense as most. You will burn calories especially if you stay on your feet. When you fold clothes, stand instead of sit – more calories burned. When you iron (if you iron clothes) stand. Instead of trying to be efficient and make just one trip up or down the stairs with a big load, divide it up and make several trips – burn more calories.
About the sandwiches, maybe the fitness trainer is into low-carb diets – bread is a lot of carbs. Also, we tend to pile on cheese and high fat mayo, etc., when we make a sandwich. so that might be why the trainer said that. Eat a balanced, low-fat diet but eat a bit of fat every now and then – you are less likely to binge or slip off the wagon. Healthy weight loss is just 1-2 pounds a week so don't push it too fast.
When I was pregnant I went to a Basic Water Exercise class – it is very low impact, less bouncing than water aerobics, uses lots of deeper water movements using floats, etc. It was great and was very effective for most of the participants, many of whom had serious issues with athritis and other motion limiting problems.
300? Too much for an entire day? Are you anorexic? Women should NEVER go below 1200 a day, and even if you had one of those subs for every meal, you'd only be at 900. Under 1200 and you will get very sick, and the weight you lose will be muscle mass, not healthy weight.
Whole wheat bread-healthy carbs
Lettuce-Ummm, probably 2 calories, If you're worried about lettuce then you need help
Turkey-great source of lean protein
No Mayo-once again, duuhh, skipping the mayo is GOOD FOR YOU
You do not need to reduce that (which is by the way impossible, unless you exercise it off, which I'm sure you already knew). You need to eat more today, and you should probably also get help. There is a very good chance you have an eating disorder from what I read.
Americans are fat for many reasons, mostly because they eat ginormous quantities of salt, fat and sugar. Americans do not care about vitamins and minerals they just want to eat empty calories. Eating pastas will cloy soon enough however, you can never feel full with just one cheeseburger.
Italians life much more active lifestyles. They walk to places, Americans don't.
The Mediterranean diet is the healthiest in the world because there's a lot of vegetables in it, plus olive oil will do miracles for your health.
Being healthy is never a strict one component thing, health is multifaceted and depends on a variety of things.
Try grilled cheese sandwich . Cup -o- Soups that just need hot water . Sliced tomatoes , carrot sticks , celery sticks and blue cheese dip / dressing . Peanut Butter and Jelly on Toast , Instant Mac-n-Cheese , apple slices and grapes with walnuts . Be creative and think simple foods . Hope this helps,,,,,,,,enjoy ! :>P yummmm
Hi sweetie I hope I can help you!
First, let me say congrats toy ou for taking control of your health and acknowledging that Celiac (CD) is a serious disease that needs to be taken care of.
Here is what I do. I too am a mother, albeit a stay at home one but we live in one income of a mechanic with one toddler and one baby on the way, so I can appreciate the budget!
You are right, GF foods do cost more. So if you are a baker, that can help you out. (I personally am not).
First, Great Value (walmart) "Fiber Supplements", they're verision of Citrucel, is GF and fairly cheap. I take those every day to assure my fiber intake.
Secondly, shop online if you can. Most GF foods are WAAYYY cheaper online. Here are my fave sites:
http://www.glutenfree.com (wide selection)
http://www.glutensolutions.com (use the code word SILLY at checkout and get 10% off. Also they give u something free every so many orders.)
http://www.amazon.com grocery section is great if you have the room and can buy in bulk for flours, mixes, etc.
For a sample list of alternative grains, go to http://www.csaceliacs.org
Here is what I often do: For meals requiring a GF alternative, such as pasta, I make myself a GF version (i.e. I boil my GF spaghetti an dmake the family regular spaghetti). This cuts down on costs significantly but u do have to be careful of cross contamination.
If u like to abke and have time, u can buy the flours online for cheaper and use cookbooks like "Bette Hagman's Gluten Free Gourmet" or "Wheat Free and Gluten Free cooking for kids and busy adults"
Try alternative grains like quinoa, corn grits, brown rice (even instant is fine).
Fiber and lots of nutrients are in many fruits and veggies. Make yourself smoothies with frozen fruits (walmart ones are just as good as fresh!) and slip in some flaxseed. Its GF and a good grain and good for health. Or add yogurts (most yoplaits are GF and now state so). to your breakfast.
If you income is tight, do you qualify for the WIC program for your children? That can help with teh food for them and free up a few bucks here and there for you to spend on GF foods.
I wouldnt worry so much about meetign the whole grains requirement. Celiacs will probably NEVER meet their RDA of whole grains bc most of the grains we 'should' eat are toxic to us! Do not feel bad if u cannot fit it all in. Just try different GF grains when u can and sub with good fruits and veggies. (apples and pears have tons of fiber.)
Beans and lentils are a good source of fiber and super cheap. Mix up a pot of red beans and brown rice and there u go!
Ihope this helps, I definitely feel your situation!!
Maybe one day a Celiac will write a weight loss book for us! It is a myth that Celiacs cant be overweigh or struggle with weight issues.
ALso on Yahoo health Groups there is a group called "overweightCeliacs" try searching them (under Yahoo Groups) and they may be able to help you. Another good Yahoo Health Group is "SillyYaks."
Hope all this helps some!
Best of luck!
Not at all. Some people do use butter in scrambled eggs, which is high in fat, but you don't have to use it.
My suggestion: Make omelets with one egg and three egg whites. Lots of good protein. Also, you can add many, many different things to omelets for variety. Some things I use include turkey bacon, green onions, white onion, refried beans (good with burritos), salsa, low-fat cheese, mushrooms, ham, diced tomatoes, broccoli, and green pepper.
Don't forget spices! Cumin, pepper, salt, chili powder, cayenne pepper, paprika, turmeric, curry, etc.
